Travel Guide to Lanzarote

Lanzarote is located in the Atlantic Ocean close to the coast of Africa. And is one of seven main islands that make up the Canarian archipelago. A Spanish owned territory that offers tourists a fusion of Latin and Iberian influences. Most of the tourists that visit Lanzarote come from Northern Europe. The UK accounts for the majority of these holidaymakers, followed by Germany. Whilst the island is also obviously popular with visitors from mainland Spain too. Lanzarote holidays can be booked with well known tour operators such as Thomas Cook and Thomson’s, although a growing number of people book their own breaks and flights to Lanzarote direct online instead.
The weather on the island is semi tropical, which means that it’s possible to holiday here at any time of the year. With visitor numbers split fairly evenly between the winter and summer seasons. The best time to visit is in fact autumn, as the weather at that time of the year is just fantastic. Whilst there are fewer holidaymakers competing for space by the pool and on the beach.
Where are the best places to stay? There are over 200 hotels located in the main resorts. Along with a huge selection of Lanzarote villas and apartments. All of which offer high levels of comfort with rates available to suit all budgets.
Villas in Puerto del Carmen tend to be more expensive than elsewhere the island – reflecting the fact that this is Laznarote´s most popular resort. Self catering properties here also tend to be a bit more substantial and better built than in some of the other destinations on the island. Puerto del Carmen is very conveniently located just a few miles from the airport so this also makes it an ideal choice for anyone who wants to keep transfer times to a minimum.
Once safely ensconced in their accommodation visitors can choose from a wide selection of things to do and see. The island is a real haven for sports enthusiasts and fresh air fiends in general – offering all types of activity from walking through to kitesufring and diving.
Sightseers will also find that they have a full itinerary. As Lanzarote boasts loads of attractions despite being a very small island. Make sure to visit the Fire Mountains – Lanzarote´s volcanic region. As well as the seven centres of art and culture developed by the well known local artist César Manrique.
